Prepare for Photos

Things to know before your photoshoot

Clothing Choices

What to Wear

Neutral colors (examples include black, white, brown, grey, etc.)

Coordinating colors (examples include denim and tan, brown and maroon, navy and cream or tan, etc.)

What Not to Wear

Large patterns

Clothing with logos or lettering
Extremely bright colors
Extreme color variations (some of the group in solid black and others in solid white)
Items that clash with others in your group
Glasses lenses make a glare, so some people opt to not wear their glasses and others pop the lenses out

Backgrounds

Choosing the background is very important.

If you have your heart set on a specific place, know that it may not translate well into a great picture background.
We can find ways to incorporate places you love into photos but may need more than one location
in order to have the best outcomes for great photos.
Be sure to articulate your thoughts and wishes to me before the session.

Lighting

Time of day for pictures is super important!

Mornings and evenings are by far the best for beautiful photos.
I know scheduling can be challenging so we do the best we can with the times available to everyone
but know that great light helps create great photos.

Young Children & Babies

Kids usually would rather play than sit still for pictures. We try to keep moving and get their pictures done more quickly.

Try to choose a time when they are rested and well fed.
Bring small treats for younger kids. We can reward as we go.
Bring extra clothes for babies.
Also bring extra bottles and pacifiers for babies.

Let’s keep them happy no matter what!

Pets

I love pets!
They are fun and full of surprises.
Know that pets, like kids, get overwhelmed easily.
Bring favorite treats and squeaky toys to the shoot.
Make sure the pet has had time to run off some energy before we begin.
